Long Pond beach is a popular Wellfleet destination for its fresh water swimming. Get there early because the parking lot fills up. There are no stairs or paths, just an easy walk across the road to get to the beach. There are no facilities except two portable toilets. The sandy beach area is L-shaped and rather small, but there is a grassy knoll behind. The water is magnificent - clear and calm. There is a floating wooden dock that kids like to jump off of. Intermediate swimmers can swim across the pond by going right. If you swim or wade to the left, you will eventually get to a submerged isthmus. Here you can wade across and access the "Long" portion (the big part) of Long Pond. This is a good spot to see frogs and the occasional turtle. This quiet end of Long Pond is also a good place to bring your kayak or inflatable raft.
Behind the grassy knoll, there is a fire road that takes you through the pines to Dyer Pond.
