Lieutenant Island is an exclusive area of summer homes in Wellfleet Harbor just south of Indian Neck. About half of the island is private homes and half is part of the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. There are no public beaches or facilities, but there are plenty of places to hike in the area.
It's a short bike ride from Route 6 down Lieutenant Island Road, which goes over a little wooden bridge. You'll see saltwater wetlands around you. If you're hiking, you may encounter small crabs, squirrels, and possibly hiding turtles.
If you rent a home or cottage on Lieutenant Island you'll be treated to beautiful sunsets. Also, you'll be in close kayaking distance to Pleasant Point, Blackfish Creek, Mill Hill Island, The Run, and the mainland portion of the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Lieutenant Island is a bird watcher's paradise, and may be like Paradise to you if you end up in a vacation rental here.
