Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary

Some adjectives to describe the Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary: astounding, beautiful, serene, awe-inspiring, exquisite. Located in the southern part of Wellfleet on Cape Cod Bay, its official name is the Massachusetts Audubon Society Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. A small section is on Lieutenant Island, with the bulk of the sanctuary between the water and Route 6 on the Wellfleet-Eastham line. There are various trails such as Goose Pond, Try Island, and Bay View that take you through the pines and along the water. Listen to the Herring Gulls. It's SO peaceful here. There's a boardwalk trail, a bird blind (for bird-watchers, this is THE BEST place to bird-watch on Cape Cod. Over 200 species of birds, 60 that nest here), and a little indoor nature center. Also, there's guided walks, guided kayak and canoe trips, workshops, lectures and various programs for children.
